Saturnus 1893 Glögg Med Smak Av Delicatoboll

Yes, it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
And you know what that means?
Time to sample some mulled wine (or Glögg as it is called in Sweden).
And this one is a weird one.
Like most things on this blog, now that I come to think about it.
Put nonetheless, it is Christmas and it is to be sampled.



Now, Delicatoboll is a very popular pastry in Sweden.
And I am quite fond of them.
But to put it as flavouring in mulled wine?
That seems a bit weird, even for my tastes.
The lable on the bottle is pretty much expected.
Since the Delicatoboll is packaged in similar colours.
It is very clean and neat and not very Christmasy.



It smells alot like Delicatoboll and that is, yes, weird.
Since it hardly smells like mulled wine at all.
And the taste, well, no. No, I do not like it.
It hardly tastes like mulled wine at all.
It has a supersweet taste and it is just to much.

Saturnus 1893 Med Smak Av Hallon & Lakrits

We are now halfway between Halloween and the Christmas season.
And what better way, than to celebrate with a kind of hybrid.
I have written before that mulled wine is a big part of Christmas here in Sweden.
And mulled wine is what we have here.
But for some reason it is flavored with something I wrote about on Halloween last year.
Hallon-Lakrits-Skallar. Or Raspberry Licorice Skulls in English.
Yes, this mulled wine is flavored with a Halloween candy (sort of).
I do not really know what went through their heads when creating it.
But it must have been both something sinister and jolly.



The packaging is pretty standard.
The company, some text and the aforementioned candy at the bottom.
Nothing fancy.
The liquid is a very dark red color.
And has a smell of regular mulled wine but also a hint of raspberry and licorice.
It is quite weird. Because it is nothing you would expect from mulled wine.
But what about the taste? Is it more jolly than sinister?
Well, no. It is very strange.
There is of course the taste of regular mulled wine.
But also a strong taste of candy, raspberry/licorice candy.
It is a bit to sweet actually.



Now I think I have to go watch Nightmare Before Christmas.
It is also an hybrid och Halloween and Christmas.

Kiviks Musteri - Tranbärsglögg Med Smak Av Ingefära

Last but not least, santa has brought us some Cranberry glögg with ginger flavouring.
Cranberrys and glögg? Could this be?
Cranberrys are not that big here Sweden, we prefer lingonberry that grows naturally here.
But ginger is a christmas flavour and that might be what makes it work.



It smells a lot like classic glögg with a hint of ginger.
It also has a taste similar to classic glögg.
The only differens is that it feels a bit more dry and has a hint of berrys.
My girlfriend summed it up pretty well.
"It tastes and smells like christmas".



A thing i noticed after a few swigs is that the ginger takes over, making it more spicy.
This diminishes the christmas feeling a bit, but not much.
Out of the three, this is my favorit.

Kiviks Musteri - Äppleglögg Med Smak Av Kanel Och Vanilj

Yesterday I wrote about glögg based on raspberries.
Today, we have a bottle of glögg based on apples flavoured with cinnamon and vanilla.
Glögg based on apples, is more common than glögg based on raspberries.



This should be good, after all... Kiviks Musteri knows its apples.
It has a very distinct smell of ripe apples.
Among all that apple scent, there is also a sweet scent of vanilla.
The cinnamon is nowhere to be smelled.

This glögg is very sweet, kind of like warm apple juice.
To much like apple juice in fact.
The taste of apples completely removes all hints of vanilla and cinnamon.
Or maybe it is just me being a bit sad that it was more lika apple juice than apple glögg.



If yesterdays raspberrie glögg was a bit like classic glögg (only sweeter). Then todays apple glögg is as far away from classic glögg as you can get. Will tomorrows glögg take home the price?

Kiviks Musteri - Hallonglögg Med Smak Av Kardemumma

Today I wanna talk to you about mulled and spiced wine.
In Sweden, we love mulled and spiced wine and we call it Glögg, especially at christmas time.
I bought a gift pack from Kiviks Musteri containing three different versions of glögg.
Glögg is mostly served warm with raisins and almonds.



Kiviks Musteri is a big apple producer and makes everything from apple juice to apple jam.
They also make different products made from a range of different fruits and berries.
But today (and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow), we are gonna talk about glögg.



The first one is a glögg based on raspberries and spiced with cardamom.
It smells like classic glögg, but also a lot like raspberries.
The cardamom is nowhere to be smelled.
It kind of tastes like classic glögg to but with a sweet taste of raspberries.
A bit to sweet I am afraid. It is just to much like juice.
There is also a hint of cardamom, but it is weak.

Saturnus Glögg Med Choklad

Efter en snabb uppvärmning i mikron så var glöggen klar.
En doft av både glögg och choklad spred sig i rummet.
Och jag funderade på vad jag gett mig in på.

Jag skippade russin och mandlar, den kombinationen kändes alldeles för konstig.
Ok, jag hade precis köpt och orkade inte öppna paketet :P
Men ändå, det hade nog blivit en konstig blandning.

Jag vet inte riktigt vad jag ska tycka, det är glögg fast ändå inte.
Det är inte som man hält i varm choklad i glöggen, mest en svag ton av choklad.
Men ändå, konstigt. Kanske beror på tillverkaren?
Finns det fler chokladglöggar därute?
